At The Humane Society of Rome, we take the safety of our staff, our animals and our community seriously.

Due to the current situation regarding COVID-19, we are postponing the Pictures with the Easter Bunny events and the Dining for Dogs and Cats scheduled for April 7th at DeSalvo’s. Please note that you may still participate by ordering take-out from DeSalvo’s. Their menu can be found online. Be sure to tell them that The Humane Society of Rome sent you! We will not have staff on site though.

In addition, we are making some changes to how we conduct our business until further notice and will be scheduling our interaction with the public. Our phones will be staffed from 8 am to 2 pm. We will continue to process adoptions. If you see an animal you are interested in adopting, please let us know. We will be scheduling appointments to process adoptions. When you arrive at the shelter to proceed with an adoption, we may be asking general health questions prior to your entrance to the building.

Keep in mind that for those who will be home for weeks or months, it is the perfect time to get a new pet! A new pet can help reduce your stress and anxiety, and you’ll have plenty of time to spend on training, walking (if your new pet is a dog), and loving.

OTHER INFO

If you find a stray dog, please contact your local Animal Control Agency. Their phone numbers can be found on our website. If you find a stray cat, PLEASE CALL us at (315) 336-7070 prior to coming to the shelter.

As always, the well-being of our animals is our top priority and to ensure their care we must protect our staff. We realize this decision will slow down our adoption process but feel it is the best option under the circumstances. Our staff will continue to be in every day to care for the animals, and their quality of care will remain the same.

People can still reclaim their lost animals. They must provide vet records, proof of vaccinations, and dog license if applicable.

As a supporter you are able to help us out now more than ever. We will continue to receive Monetary and Supply donations. We are currently in desperate need of clumping litter.

Please call our shelter if you are able to drop off donations or send them directly to our shelter location at 6247 Lamphear Road, Rome, NY.

Thank you for your understanding and we apologize for any inconvenience.
