Pets bring so much love, comfort and happiness into our lives.
May is National Pet Month. National Pet Month is a great time to spread the word about the many benefits of pet adoption and ownership.
It is also a great time to remember to help out all the homeless animals who are waiting for a home of their own and to be someone’s loving pet.
A few things we can do during National Pet Month are:
Promote the benefits of pet ownership. Coming home to a pet who is excited to see you brings happiness to our lives. It’s proven that pets contribute to an overall healthier lifestyle by helping to reduce stress and lower blood pressure.
Support pet adoption. If you’re looking to add a pet to your family, consider adopting through your local shelter or rescue. If you are unable to adopt you can still help make shelter animals happy by volunteering at the shelter. Shelters are always in need of volunteers to help out at the shelter as well as at offsite adoption events.
Fostering is another way of helping shelter pets. Inviting a shelter pet into your home gives them the chance to get out of the shelter for awhile and get used to living in a home. It also gives you the opportunity to see what having a pet is all about before you make a lifetime commitment yourself.
You can pamper your pet by getting them a new toy or special treat. You can take your dog to a dog park or to the beach for some fun and exercise. Maybe they would just enjoy a fun time playing catch in the yard. If you have cats just spend some extra time playing with and cuddling them.
Whatever you do to celebrate National Pet Month, whether it’s extra love and attention for your own pet or for a shelter pet, enjoy your time with the animals in your life. Make this year’s National Pet Month memorable.
